The Saltmarsh Project: The Saltmarsh Stories – A New Beauty
March 22nd
Art Exhibition
Totnes, Devon, UK
The Saltmarsh Project is a commission by the Bioregional Learning centre.
I am one of five artists comissioned to make pieces and work in association with ecologists, scientists and other players in a project for the preservation and restoration of the saltmarshes in the Dart estuary.
I'll be presenting my audio meta-documentary at this exhibition, and at the evening event on Monday 24th March. It will also be broadcast on radio.
You can listen to the commissioned sound piece from phase 1 of the project here:

Muddy, grey and brown in the winter, the Dart’s saltmarshes often go unnoticed. A New Beauty is questioning what kind of beauty we pay attention to. Through the arts, what are we learning about different ways of understanding, invisible history, vulnerability, and the value of simply being, as part of an ecosystem?
For this art installation/exhibition, each artist has developed work in relationship with the saltmarshes, and the result uncovers and amplifies their special qualities. The space created in the Old School Hall sets their work into the context of The Saltmarsh Project. Inclusion of six local artists alongside ecologists, scientists and designers has expanded the understanding of, and communication about, these fragile ecosystems and vital carbon stores.
