The Saltmarsh Project: An Edge Place

March 24th

Storytelling, Films & Bar

Totnes, Devon, UK

The Saltmarsh Project is a commission by the Bioregional Learning centre.

I am one of five artists comissioned to make pieces and work in association with ecologists, scientists and other players in a project for the preservation and restoration of the saltmarshes in the Dart estuary.

I'll be presenting my audio meta-documentary at this evening event. It will also be broadcast on radio.

The Saltmarsh Project has evolved to restore around 10 acres (4ha) of saltmarsh within the Dart Estuary, developing a collaborative way of working and helping us all to better understand this complex and interdependent community.

Saltmarshes feature in the flow of energy and material between land and sea. They form as soft edges, not hard. Through this restoration process, what are we learning about softening boundaries, working with nature, resilience, adaptation?

Meet the team members and and The Saltmarsh Artist Collective. Hear the whole story.

Each team member has contributed a specific set of skills to the Project, from biological surveying with drone and LIDAR imagery, applying ecological knowledge, coppicing in woodland, doing the work–boots in the mud, to sharing the story locally and globally and interpreting saltmarsh essence through the arts. Join us for this evening of celebration and conversation where we see the project as a whole and consider how the work might take root.

Book a free ticket with Ticket Tailor.

There is a paid bar.

Saltmarsh Project. Inclusion of six local artists alongside ecologists, scientists and designers has expanded the understanding of, and communication about, these fragile ecosystems and vital carbon stores.
